In addition to removing, sharpening, and replacing the chain and maintaining accurate cutter angles and matching pitches and gauges, this unit includes dismantling, cleaning, inspecting and re-assembling the power head and cutting attachments.
Typically, they are involved in arboriculture, forestry, agriculture, conservation and land management, local government, emergency services and other government agency operations and responsible for maintaining fuel or electrically powered hand-held chainsaws as part of their role.

Individuals will learn to visually assess the job activity; correctly identify areas of compression and tension in logs; learn different cut types; and how to plan the sequences of cuts accordingly. Individuals will also develop the skills and knowledge required to undertake basic operator maintenance for fuel or electrically powered hand-held chainsaws.

Also known as Chainsaw Level 2, this course applies to individuals who are involved in arboriculture, forestry, agriculture, conservation and land management, local government, emergency services and other government agency operations, responsible for felling basic trees using a chainsaw. It will provide individuals with the skills and knowledge required that may be required to assess and manually fall small trees with a low level of complexity and to complete operator maintenance.
Basic trees are small to medium trees that can be safely and predictably felled using standard cutting techniques. They are sound, stable, and free from significant defects or excessive lean. Their size, structure, and surrounding site conditions allow the fall to be planned and controlled without complex cuts or mechanical assistance.
